New Album
At a time when women had little space in musical creation, composers Camilla de Rossi and Maria Margherita Grimani wrote astonishing works, full of emotion and virtuosity. Preserved for centuries in the archives of the Austrian National Library, their music is brought back to life today through the luminous voice of Suzanne Jerosme and the wonderful Il Gusto Barocco conducted by Jörg Halubek.
The album brings together some of the most beautiful pages of these composers alongside arias by Alessandro Scarlatti, a great master of the Italian oratorio. Together, they paint a rich, sensitive, and captivating portrait of Baroque Vienna.
Athalia, Handel
“Suzanne Jerosme portrayed an Athalia who was both regal and vulnerable, shaped with full awareness of the relationship between word and sound. Even in concert form, her stage presence was magnetic: a voice that was soft yet penetrating, impeccable diction, and a rare sense of theatre. In the famous fury aria “My Vengeance awakes me,” she impressed with her technical control and clarity of intent: the coloratura passages were agile but always at the service of the drama, never mere displays of virtuosity for their own sake. In the more introspective moments, her tone became velvety, her legato flowed effortlessly, and every linguistic inflection was crafted with musical intelligence and sensitivity to the meaning of the text.”
